Rocoto peppers are native to the mountains of Peru—called ruqutu in the native language of Quechua, but also sometimes called manzano peppers. The flavor is sweet and fruity, but be careful as they are hot (coming in at around 80,000 Scoville Heat Units, about the level of cayenne and habanero peppers), and this sharp heat comes through in salsas, chilis, braises, and soups and stews.
