Why should I shop with Perfectly Seasoned instead of [insert big name grocery store]?

By shopping with us, you'd be supporting a small local business and not a corporate chain. We have extensive spice knowledge and culinary experience, so we can offer suggestions for how to use your spices and herbs in ways you hadn't considered before.

We also purchase everything in small batches from our farmers and importers, which ensures freshness and quality that you won't get at big box stores where their products may sit around for long months or years. You'll notice the difference as soon as you pop open that jar of paprika or basil.

Where do you source your spices?

We work with a few trusted farmers, distributors, and importers depending on the ingredient. Our spices, herbs, and teas come from all around the world—for example: rooibos tisane comes from South Africa, saffron comes from Spain, Mediterranean oregano comes from Greece, and cloves come from Indonesia.

All our seasonings are blended and packed in-house, so we have full control over the quality of ingredients we offer to our customers.

How do I store the spices?

Keep your spices cool, dry, and out of light. A cupboard or pantry will be the best spot, but avoid the storage space above your stove or any drawer directly next to your oven or dishwasher.

How long do your spices stay fresh for? / When do your spices expire?

We work on the philosophy that if your spices look good (color hasn't faded or turned) and smell like they're supposed to, then the spices are still good. We recommend going through your spices and herbs once every 1-2 years and checking to make sure everything still tastes good.

In general, whole seeds and berry-like spices (allspice, peppercorns, cumin, coriander, etc.) will keep for 3-4 years; other whole spices (nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, etc.) should be good for 3-5 years; green/leafy herbs (basil, parsley, rosemary, fenugreek, etc.) are good for 2-3 years; ground spices will keep for about 2 years; and salts will last indefinitely.

Do you ship? / Can I order online and pick it up in-store?

We ship across the United States. When placing an order online, you can enter shipping information then (or specify in-store pickup if you are local). We can also collect shipping information when you make purchases in person.

Do you have this specific item I'm looking for?

We carry over 200 herbs, spices, blends, extracts, and teas. If you can't find what you're looking for, let us know! We will gladly look into sourcing hard to find ingredients or developing a blend that satisfies your needs, and we can certainly suggest alternatives you'll love.

Do your blends contain anti-caking agents?

Some of our blends contain maltodextrin, a naturally derived starch, which aids in keeping our blends free flowing. We also use rice hull powder with naturally occurring silica to prevent clumping in some of our seasonings. For full product ingredients, check the product page or the jar label for details.

Do your spices contain any allergens?

With the exception of items containing beer or soy sauce, all our seasonings are gluten-free and do not contain wheat, however we are not a certified gluten-free facility. Some of our products contain sesame seeds and a few contain dairy.

You can find a full list of ingredients—including allergen information—on our product pages. We take great care in sanitizing our equipment and work surfaces to prevent cross-contamination, but please be aware that in our facility, we work with sesame, wheat, soy, dairy, peanuts, and tree nuts.

How big are your jars?

Our small jars have a volume of 2.5 ounces—that's a little more than 1/4 cup. The large jars are your standard size 4 ounce (1/2 cup) jars.

Do you sell your seasonings in bulk?

Our spices are available in refill bag quantities equal to a large jar (½ cup), 2x large jar (1 cup), and 3x large jar (1½ cups). These can be specially ordered via our website or in person and are filled on a per-purchase basis.

We also sell our seasonings in bulk to restaurants and in jars for retail under our wholesale program. If you are interested in carrying our seasonings in your store or using our seasonings at your restaurant, please contact us at hello@perfectlyseasonedsf.com
