Typically used in dishes like kalua pork, poke bowls, and Hawaiian jerky, this red sea salt contains clay rich in iron oxide that gives it that rich color. Less salty than other salts, but somewhat earthy and complex in flavor, red salt can be used on grilled meats and vegetables, but makes a bold statement when used as a finishing salt, especially on lighter colored foods like chicken, white fish, and squash and potatoes.
